Hello Fish Fans, The fishing off the coast of Stuart Florida was a bit hit & miss last week but Tuesday was another awesome fishing trip aboard the Reel Busy. We started out the day with 9 Blackfin Tuna and a small gaffer Dolphin on the hill 10 miles off the beach. We only had a 1/2 day and decided to head a bit closer to shore to a current edge hoping to catch a few more Dolphin. The edge looked promising but there wasn’t much life on it so I prepared to head for home and started clearing the lines. The outriggers were up and I was winding in the last line when the rod doubled over and it was party time. It was obvious that it was a reel big fish but there was no jumping or screaming drag, just a hard steady pull like a submarine diving down. We spent the next hour speculating what was on the 30lb outfit till it finally came up near the surface and we got a glimpse. It was big and black but still too far below the surface to make a possitive ID but when it returned to the deep I knew it was probably a Blue Marlin. We don’t catch alot of Blue Marlin 6 miles off the beach in 200 feet of water so I expected it was a foul hooked Sailfish but almost 2 hours into the fight the Big Blue Marlin finally decided to play the game. He took to the air exploding the water around him several times and started screamin the line off the reel. This Blue Marlin was 10′ long and all of 300lbs so it’s not surprizing it took a few hours to catch’em but this monster fish ate a 3″ lure. The video came out great and I’m sure it will get alot of playing time over the next several weeks, it was an awesome site to see. The Tuna fishing shut down on the hill mid-week and the edge of the gulfstream is loaded with Bonitas but the Sailfish and Dolphin have been few.
