Hello Fish Fans, April is finally here and springtime fishing is off to a red hot start. The charter boats that aren’t willing to head offshore to the deeper waters of the gulfstream which includes the Reel Busy on a 1/2 day trip are struggling and bending the rods on Bonita. The best fishing right now is 15 to 20 miles off the beach in about 1000′ of water. The full moon always slows the Dolphin fishing down a bit and the best bite is early and late in the day but mid-day is Blue Marlin time. Yesterday morning we hooked-up 5 Dolphin and landed 4 in 1300′ of water, the smallest was about 12 pounds and the largest was 28 pounds. Packs of Dolphin like this will become more plentifull throughout the month of April so if you like catchin Big Dolphin nows the time to get onboard the Reel Busy. The weedlines are broken up by the last cool front and it takes a few days for the lines to form up so we we’re trolling back and forth between 1000′ and 1300′ searching for another pack of Dolphin when the big daddy of them all exploded behind the boat. A Blue Marlin exploded on a lure 30′ behind the boat and the reel started screaming. About an hour into the fight the Blue Marlin went deep and for the next 45 minutes we used every tactic possible to get him up to the surface. We finally did but with all the running and jumping the Blue marlin managed to get the leader wrapped around his body and he came up tail-wrapped and dead. It was exciting and dissapointing at the same time because a Blue Marlin is too prized a treasure to kill. Most of the time they will revive by dragging them through the water until they catch their breath but not this time. We brought him in and put him on the scale, he weighed in at 212 pounds. While we were fighting this Blue Marlin we saw another one about 1500 yards away bustin up the water feeding on Dolphin. The Reel Busy will catch more Blue Marlin and Dolphin than the rest of the fleet again this year so give us a call and get hooked-up. I’ll be back next week with another fishing report from Stuart Florida, Sailfish Capital of the World. Catch you later, Capt. Wayne, Reel Busy Charters
