Hello Fish Fans, The fishing off the coast of Stuart Florida has been good to excellent over the last 2 weeks and it’s Mahi Mahi Time. We’re not seeing packs of Dolphin but there’s been an abundance of 15 to 25 pound fish and it doesn’t take many to pile up the filets. We’ve been catchin 3 to 5 twenty pounders with a few lifters on every trip this past week and they’ve been getting bigger. We started this past week with a 28 lb Dolphin on the leader board at the marina, we knocked it off with a 31 pound Dolphin a few days later. I was dissapointed that the Reel Busy wasn’t booked this weekend because the Dolphin fishin is going off so after hanging around the marina hoping for a morning walk up I jumped on the Reel Busy and went on the hunt. The first hour or two was quiet but I knew they’d turn on and they did. I caught a couple of lifters and one 20 pound bull when a Monster Bull Dolphin showed up crashing on a super chugger and the next few minutes was as good as it gets. He crushed it and peeled off about 20 feet of line before the hook pulled but he was determined to kill that sucker so he put out those flouesent blue pec fins and attacked again. Once again he pulled the hook after about 20 to 30 feet of screamin drag. Hoping he wouldn’t lose interest I wound up 30 to 40 feet of line as fast as I could and sure enough he came charging in like his ass was on fire and crushed it. Somehow he managed to pull off another 20/30 feet before once again pulling the hook but this time he found one of the two ballyhoo that were draggin 30& 50 feet behind the chugger. He was finally hooked up and I couldn’t help but let it out, GOTCHA ! At first sight it appeared to be 35 to 40 pounds and the line was screamin off the reel. I was Reel Busy driving the boat, clearing the other lines while trying to slow down a 50 pound freight train with 30 pound tackle. I managed to get one side clear and while doing so another Bull Dolphin about 25 pounds came charging in to see what was going on. Now most people would have been happy just fighting one BIG Bull Dolphin but that’s not me so I  fired out a ballyhoo on a spinning rod and hooked him up.  It took about 10 minutes to land the second fish and the closer the first fish got the bigger it looked. I knew it was at least 40lbs and holding the rod while gaffing a fish is always a challenge. The Dolphin weighed in at 50.4 pounds and that’s the biggest one I’ve heard of so far this year. The Dolphin fishin is excellent right now and there’s a few Sailfish around as well. Last Friday we had 3 Big Dolphin, a couple lifters and 2 Sailfish releases. Sailfish season is considered to be Nov.- Feb. but there’s alot of Sailfish off the coast of Stuart in the summertime so you can usually catch a couple. The Cobia fishing has slowed to a crawl and the Kingfishing is still on the slow side but there’s plenty of Dolphin so give me a call and we’ll hook you up. I’ll be back next week with another fishing report from Stuart Florida Sailfish Capital of the World. Catch you later, Capt. Wayne, Reel Busy Charters 772-341-6609
