Hello Fish Fans, The fishing off the coast of Stuart, Florida got off to a slow start early in the week but finished off strong. The best bite continues to be just south of the St’ Lucie Inlet and we’ve been catchin’ Sailfish, Dolphin, Tuna and Bonita. The Dolphin fishing has been excellent the last few days and most of the Dolphin have been 8 to 15 pound gaffers. On most days we’ll catch 3 to5 Dolphin this time of year but we’ll have days with a dozen or more and most of them will be 8 to 10 pounds. There’s been alot of 20 to 30 pound Blackfin Tuna just 6 miles off the beach due east of the St. Lucie Inlet with Skipjack Tuna and Bonita mixed in. The Sailfishing is still a bit hit & miss but the Sailfish are migrating south and anyday can be a great day. On most days we’ll catch a few but we’re always working for that double digit day. I spend most of my days charter fishing aboard the Reel Busy but also offer a guide service for visitors to the area and people who want to learn more offshore fishing techniques on their own boat. Last week I had the pleasure of fishing aboard Half Moon with a couple of guys eager to learn everything thing they can about Stuart, Florida fishing. They’ve been learning how to rig Ballyhoo with a circle hook and we’re looking to catch their first Sailfish. We had a great day of fishing and caught Tuna, Bonita and a pile of gaffer Dolphin but the Sailfish never showed up to play the game. Every fisherman has a plug or lure that they fall in love with and don’t leave home without it and aboard the Half Moon it’s a cedar plug. We we’re down to our last 3 baits and still hoping for a Sailfish when out comes the cedar plug. The cedar plug has been around since wood was invented and there’s nothing sexy about the way they look. Everybody has a couple on board but they stay in the tackle box, they’re for Tuna fishing right. It took about 5 minutes before a Sailfish came up and crushed the cedar plug from the flat line and it was showtime. We hooked-up a second Sailfish on a ballyhoo and missed a couple more. They both caught their first Sailfish and it was a great way to finish off a picture perfect day. We’re catchin’ alot of fish and you can too just give me a call and let’s get busy catchin’ fish. I’ll be back next week with another fishing report from Stuart, Florida Sailfish Capital of the World. Catch you later, Capt. Wayne Brodeur, Reel Busy Charters 772-341-6609
