The fishing off the coast of Stuart Florida has been excellent if you’re looking for a red hot sailfish bite but not so much if dolphin fishing is your game. Sailfish, Kingfish and Bonito have been providing plenty of action just 4 to 6 miles off the beach. The tuna and dolphin bite has been 10 to 20 miles off the beach.
Everybody knows there’s an excellent sailfish bite off the coast of Stuart Florida in Dec., Jan., and February but the full time Stuart Florida Charter Boats know July and August can be every bit as exciting. The sailfish can’t migrate south in the winter without passing by in the summer and they seem to be hanging around this year. Challenge had 16 catch & releases the other day, Sunday had 9 and we released 1 out of 2 in less than an hour on our way in from a 1/2 day tuna fishing.
The dolphin fishing’s been poor with all the westerly winds and we’ve had our best dolphin bite 10 to 20 miles off the beach in the heart of the gulfstream. The weeds are still scattered about on most days with most of the larger weed patties 18 to 23 miles off the beach. The dolphin fishing can be good but you’ll need a full day commitment to hunt them down in the deeper waters of the gulfstream to be successful on most days right now.
We’re still catching 3 to 5 pound blackfin tuna on the hill with a few dolphin and sailfish in the mix. The tuna bite’s good on most days this time of year so it usually doesn’t take too long to put dinner together.
We’ve had a great time on our Bahamas trips this summer and want to thank everybody who joined us so far, it’s been a pleasure. Hopefully we’ll get more sunshine this week for our next 3 day Bahamas Fishing Charter.
