Hello Fish Fans, The Dolphin fishin was as good as it gets til about a week ago, it’s like they dissapeared. We had been catchin lots of Dolphin between 10 and 30 pounds about 15 miles offshore under the birds and around the scattered weedlines. This past week it all disappeared, the weeds were gone and the birds were all searchin for fish just like us. One trip last week we went over 40 miles offshore determined to find the Dolphin, that’s about 10 miles from the Bahamas, we never saw a Dolphin over 8 inches, they chased the bait down out of instinct but were too small to even bite off the tails of the bait. It’s hard to believe but there were more Sailfish caught than Dolphin over the last week or so but it’s true. The Dolphin fishin has been on and off this summer so I expect it will pick back up, I hope it’s reel soon. The best action the last week or so has been 3 to 5 miles from the beach, 15 to 25 pound Bonita are everywhere, they’re not good to eat but they put up a great fight. The Kingfishin has been excellent, most of these fish 8 to 12 pounds but 30 and 40 pounders are very possible. The bottom fishin is still on the slow side, this should be improving this month but the water temperture on the bottom is still under 60 degrees, as it warms up down there the bottom feeders will get more aggressive. The surface water temperture is now 85 to 87 degrees so we can expect the bottom water to start warming soon. The Sailfishin has been good and this should continue, last August the Sailfishin was excellent and it looks like it will be again this year. Hookin up at lea/2 or 3 Sailfish a day is a reasonable expectation right now. I’ll be back in about 10 days with another fishin report from Stuart Florida, Sailfish Capital of the World.
