Hello Fish Fans, Another cold front has us all at the dock this weekend, it’s rainy, windy and 10 to 12 foot seas, I hope this is the last cold front of the year cause I go nuts when I’m stuck on land. The weather was great last week and with Sailfishin windin down I recommended runnin and gunnin to my clients, it’s 150.00 more for fuel costs but it’s usually worth it and this time it was worth every penny and then some. The water on the backside of the Gulfstream is electric blue and at about 35 miles offshore we found a beautiful current edge with scattered weed and some debris. While trolling the area we found a small log bobbing staight up and down and began catchin Dolphin, most of them were on the small side so I put on the Wahoo lures and we began catchin Wahoo, we caught six, four of them in the 25 pound range. After a couple hours of catchin it slowed down so we started runnin lookin for another edge, we found another one and after about 30 minutes of trollin the edge the grand daddy of them all popped up on the long rigger. At first I wasn’t sure what it was cause all I could see was the bill swatting at the bait, the third swat I dropped the bait back and hooked him up, he went straight down and I knew then it was a Blue Marlin. After about 15 minutes he came to the surface 30 feet from the boat and fired up the rockets, he exploded the water and screamed off about 200 yards of line bustin the surface the whole time. The next time we got him to the boat he lit up like a christmas tree and began exploding water everywhere putting us in a 360 degree turn, it was totally awesome. The next time we got him to the boat I grabbed the leader and let him go, it took about an hour an a half to release this 180 pound Blue Marlin on 20 pound tackle, it was the catch of a lifetime for my angers and a day they’ll never forget. The Reel Busy cruises at 35 to 40 mph so it doesn’t take that long to get 30,40 or 50 miles offshore, the backside of the Gulfstream offers a wide varity of big fish, Blue Marlin,Yellowfin Tuna, Big Dolphin and Wahoo are the most common. Closer to shore the fishin has been hit and miss, there’s still a few Sailfish around, Dolphin, Kingfish, Bonita and small sharks have been consistant but not in great numbers. As the winds and seas subside the bottom fishin for Mutton Snapper and Grouper should continue to improve right through the spring and into summertime. I’ll be back in about 10 days with another fishin report from stuart Florida, Sailfish Capital of the World, Catch You Later, Captain Wayne, Reel Busy ChartersLet’s Go Fishin ! 305-304-9049 cell or 772-288-1332 home
