Hello Fish Fans, Despite all the media hype on the Okeechobee dumping into the St. Lucie River the gulfstream waters are still blue and the Reel Busy is catching fish. We’ve had the pleasure of fishing both the gulfstream waters off the coast of Stuart Florida and the Bahamas this past month.
The summertime sailfish bite is on and sea conditions are picture perfect on most days. It’s well known that Stuart Florida is a hotspot for sailfish in the winter months but the sailfish bite in July is excellent. We been getting 3 to 5 bites and catching 2 or 3 sailfish on all of our sailfish charters so far this month.
We had to do a bit of hunting for dolphin. Some days we’ve found dolphin just 5 miles off the beach and other days we’ve been 10 to 15 miles out. The dolphin fishing’s been hit and miss but we’re hittin more than missin so it’s all good.
The tuna fishing off the coast of Stuart hasn’t been great but we’re catching 15 to 20 pound blackfins when we catch them. On the Bahamas side Blackfin Tuna and Skip Jack Tuna are abundant. The yellowfin tuna have been more elusive but we’re catching a few.
We didn’t see the large schools of giant manta rays this spring covered with cobia but we had a pack of about 50 manta rays show up last week. There was only a handful of legal size cobia with them but it’s always an awesome sight to see.
