Hello Fish Fans, The fishing off the coast of Stuart Florida continues to be hit & miss but we’ve managed to catch Dolphin and/or Sailfish on every trip last week. The Dolphin fishing was better early in the week and 20 to 40 lb Dolphin we’re pushing through from 450′ to 600′ of water. As the week progressed it became a bit more challenging and most of the Dolphin we’re 7 to 15 pounds. The winds changed direction almost on a daily basis last week and disrupted the weedlines so the Dolphin and Sargasso weed was scattered about. Birds are generally a good sign this time of year but the last couple of days there’s been a different breed of gulls offshore and they’re relentless. They dive down tearing up the baits, swim under water and run accross the top of the water like a duck. We saw hundreds of them over the last 2 days and it’s hard to keep your sense of humor when you’re leaving fish to escape the birds. We had a pack of Dolphin behind the boat yesterday and couldn’t hook them up because the birds would beat them to the bait. I don’t know where they come from or where thery’re going but it could be the last supper if they screw with me on my next trip. The waters due east of the St. Lucie Inlet have held the most Dolphin from 5 to 14 miles from the beach. The Sailfishing has been good about 10 miles south of the St. Lucie Inlet in 180′ to 280′ feet of water. We caught 2 Sailfish on Saturday morning while heading offshore in search of Dolphin. Sailfish are very aggressive this time of year and we had more success trolling dead baits than we did live bait fishing last week. The Blackfin Tuna still haven’t returned in numbers so we haven’t spent much time looking for them off the hill but they’re still plentifull off the corner of the Bahama Bank. We had another trip canceled to the corner last week because of the sea conditions but the boats that headed out earlier in the week found a good Yellowfin Tuna bite between 80 and 100 miles out. The east/ northeast winds that have been blowing the last few days should push the Mid-Atlantic temperture break closer to the coast pushing the Yellowfin Tuna to the 60 to 80 mile range 10 to 15 miles north of the Bahama Bank. The bottom bite was disrupted a bit last week but there was good reports early in the week during the morning hours. Sailfish and Dolphin should continue to play the game throughout the summer months so give me a call and let’s go catch’em. I’ll be back next week with another fishing report from Stuart, Florida Sailfish Capital of the World. Catch you later, Capt. Wayne Brodeur, Reel Busy Charters 772-341- 6609
